Antenna:
Omni Directional

The Flann antenna range now includes an Omni Directional Antenna. The antenna has been specifically designed to provide a vertically polarised 360° field of view in Azimuth with the widest possible acceptance angle in Elevation. This allows the tracking of sources above and below the horizontal plane or alternatively maintain mobile communication between nodes over rough terrain. The antenna is suitable for many applications requiring good all round coverage.
The MD249 shown below in Figure 1 has been optimised for operation between 59 and 64GHz to take advantage of the license free band but maintains functional performance from 50 to 70GHz. The antenna combines rugged construction with a precision 1.85mm coaxial connector. A waveguide feed is available if required.

Measured radiation patterns are shown in Figure 2. The gain is nominally 1-3dB but can be easily extended to much higher gains if required. The V band version of the antenna is fed via a 1.85mm coaxial connector and careful design and manufacture ensures good return loss (see Figure 3).

Models with other connector types such as N, 3.5mm, 2.92mm, 2.4mm and 1.0mm are also available. A horizontal polarisation model is currently under development. Please contact sales for more information.
Measured return loss is given below over the optimised band. The antenna functions over a much greater bandwidth. Further testing is underway to characterise its performance fully.

The high performance units cover the licence free frequency band 59 - 64GHz. The antenna maintains a good all around coverage, while the precision machined construction ensures a low VSWR.
